“Once the kernel-level driver is deployed it will be required to play Warzone,” reads the announcement post.
There will be no getting around the feature either. With crossplay now supported in Call of Duty titles, it’s something that will benefit console players too. This kernel-level driver “will assist in the identification of cheaters, reinforcing and strengthening the overall server security” by sitting in the background while you play a Call of Duty game on PC, keeping an eye out for “software and applications that attempt to interact and manipulate Call of Duty: Warzone” to give players an unfair advantage. In addition to the server enhancements, Ricochet also involves a kernel-level driver for PC, which will come first to Call of Duty: Warzone later this year as part of the Pacific update. Launching alongside Vanguard later this year, the post describes Ricochet as “a multi-faceted approach to combat cheating, featuring new server-side tools which monitor analytics to identify cheating, enhanced investigation processes to stamp out cheaters, updates to strengthen account security, and more.” Watch the 15 minute 'first look' reveal below to see the development team go over the mode in detail:Īnnouncing the Ricochet anti-cheat initiativeĪctivision has announced a new anti-cheat initiative for Call of Duty called ‘Ricochet’ in a post on the Call of Duty site. With this, players will be able to “choose from a variety of upgrades that randomize each time you return from an objective.” According to Treyarch, when paired with your other weapons and abilities, “the Altar of Covenants can create unique gameplay builds never before experienced in Zombies.” While it’s taking players back to a World War II setting, Vanguard’s Zombies mode introduces new upgrades like the Altar of Covenants. The other four - Saraxis the Shadow, Norticus the Conqueror, Inviktor the Destroyer, and Bellekar the Warlock - are in revolt against Kortifex.” Kortifex is one of five Dark Aether entities bonded with mortals via their otherworldly artifacts. In a post on the official Call of Duty website, the team has gone into a little more detail over what players can expect from the story of Zombies this time around, explaining that, “Special Forces operatives are stranded in the snowy graveyard of Stalingrad, with no backup and no means of communication, held in by the dark magic of Kortifex the Deathless.
Zombies will launch with the game on November 5 and Treyarch will build on the Dark Aether universe introduced in Black Ops Cold War. Vanguard’s Zombies mode was revealed in all its glory in October 2021. Even better, the mode's original creator, Treyarch, is working on this most recent iteration. Zombies fans rejoice, as the popular wave-based co-operative mode is returning in Call of Duty: Vanguard. Finally, there's American naval aviator Wade Jackson, who is likely based on Vernon Micheel. While Call of Duty: Vanguard will remain an ahistorical take on the second World War, its playable characters in the campaign do seem to have roots in real historical figures – Polina Petrova looks to be inspired by famous female Soviet sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko.īritish paratrooper Arthur Kingsley looks to be directly inspired by Sidney Cornell, while Lucas Riggs is likely a fictional Australian take on New Zealand's Charles Upham. Sledgehammer Games have since revealed some extra context on Vanguard's setting and story, stating that the game tells "the untold stories of multinational heroes that formed Task Force One, changing the face of history and setting the stage for special forces as we know it."
As such, Vanguard could be the most ambitious Call of Duty to date when it comes to the second World War setting. This was later confirmed in the original teaser trailer which showcased a World War 2 setting across numerous theaters of conflict, and later built upon in the recent reveal trailer. Call of Duty: Vanguard will return to the second World War, which was originally revealed via a report by ModernWarzone (via GamesRadar ), which was later verified by both Eurogamer and VGC.
